St Mary’s Church Shoe Box Appeal

Thank you very much indeed for your very generous contributions for the shoe box appeal and to those who have made up a box. It’s so lovely to be part of a collective effort which enables St Mary’s to help to bring joy into the homes of under privileged children at Christmas.

You can continue to donate anything off the list at any time: pencils, pens, colouring books, crayons, notebooks, drawing pads, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hats, scarves, gloves, small cuddly toys/other small toys, games, puzzles, small balls, soap and sweets dated January 2024 or later.

Suggested items for the next 4 weeks are:

8/10  Games, puzzles, any small toys

15/10 Small balls, any small toys

22/10 Soap

29/10 Sweets (dated January 2024 or later)

Thanks to wonderful support from a family on Hall Road, we have lots of Christmas paper, but we still need shoe boxes if you have any you can donate.

Please place items and shoe boxes in the red box at the front of church, or I can arrange collection.

Thank you once again for a tremendous effort so far.

Deadline, Sunday 29 October.

Reporting problems around the village

Do you know who to contact if you spot an issue? We all have the responsibility to notify someone if we see something that needs repairing or could be dangerous but finding the right contact can be a challenge and make a huge difference to the speed of the issue being addressed.

As a general rule:

Contact the County Council at www.staffordshire.gov.uk to report any issues with highways (e.g. potholes), pavements or flood prevention.

East Staffordshire Borough Council has responsibility for planning matters, refuse collection and some recreational facilities such as Brook Hollows. They can be contacted on www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk

The Parish Council maintains our play parks, open spaces, footpaths and more local amenities such as the planters on Burnside and benches around the village. They can be contacted on rollestonondovepc@outlook.com

All Councils have many more responsibilities and a full list can be found at https://rollestonondovepc.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Responsibilities-Leaflet.pdf

Remember – in an emergency always contact the emergency services by dialling 999.

If you spot it – report it. Together we can make a difference

Rollestonian of The Year!

Congratulations to Graham Jacks, Rollestonian of The year 2022. Graham collected his award at last night’s Parish Council meeting from the Chair, Clare Stewart.

St Mary’s Church – Shoe Box Appeal for Christmas 2024

We hope that you will be able to make a contribution to this year’s Shoe Box Appeal. It would be lovely for St Mary’s to play a part in bringing joy into the lives of under privileged children overseas at Christmas.
You may find it easier to bring items to church and place them in the box provided. We will then make up the boxes in time for the deadline.
You can bring anything from the list below and put them in the box at any time, but the suggested dates and items may help you to plan regular donations , if you wish to do this.
IF YOU HAVE ANY SPARE SHOE BOXES AT HOME, OR LEFTOVER CHRISTMAS WRAPPING PAPER WHICH WE CAN USE, PLEASE BRING THESE AND PLACE THEM IN THE BOX.
Even the smallest donation will help.
If you would like to fill your own shoe box, the deadline is Sunday 29 October.

New footpath bridge at end of Forest School Street play area onto Craythorne playing field installed

We are pleased to announce that the new bridge at the end of the footpath from the Forest School Street play area onto Craythorne playing field has been installed by our Contractor. This much stronger and robust bridge replaces the rather old original one.
The next task will be to level up the surface from the end of the footpath bridge onto the playing field and to extend the path to join up with the footpath from Craythorne Woods,
Additional drainage will also be put in place in the playing field area near this bridge, which currently becomes extremely muddy and waterlogged whenever it rains heavily!
