Vandalism on Tafflands
Tafflands play area was once again the target for vandals at the weekend when part of the wooden playhouse ramp was deliberately targeted by an arson attack. This not only costs the village money every time it has to be repaired but also deprives children of the use of a much loved play area.
The police are aware and will be monitoring the area more closely but if you witness acts such as these or have any information that could help to identify the culprits please contact the police directly.

Fly tippers are being sent a clear message and are reminded to beware, as East Staffordshire Borough Council’s Enforcement Team continues to crack down on fly-tipping, through use of mobile CCTV cameras to capture footage of offenders at well-known hot spots across the Borough.
Anyone caught illegally depositing waste could receive a £400 Fixed Penalty Notice or a prison sentence for severe cases or repeat offenders.
The Team has recently recorded footage of fly tipping on land at Craythorne Road, Stretton, where three members of the public in separate vehicles were observed fly tipping waste.
Following an investigation, where all three suspects were interviewed under caution, three £400 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued.
Unlicensed carriers often dump waste along country lanes, leaving the clean-up bill to the Council or the landowner where it is on privately owned land.
The Enforcement Team asks residents to not use the services of unlicensed waste carriers, who often target people through social media, or they could also face a fine. Residents are asked to ensure that anyone employed to take waste away is reputable and licensed. Always ask to see a copy of their waste carriers licence and also ask for a receipt (often called a ‘tipping note’).
Cllr Simon Slater, Cabinet Member for Communities and Regulatory Services, said: “The Council’s Enforcement Team is committed to tackling fly tipping and other serious offences across the Borough. I am pleased to see those committing such crimes being charged with Fixed Penalty Notices and I would remind any potential fly tippers of the punishment they will face when caught.”
“Residents looking to dispose of large unwanted items can either get their bulky waste collected by the Council at a small charge or take their waste to a local recycling centre for free. Further information on both services can be found on the Council’s website.”
To report incidents of fly tipping, please telephone (01283) 508506 or report via the Council’s website.
